Jesus & the Story of Legion; the Ten Thousand
The bible doesn’t like to tell tales that may be true but have no perfect reflection of good or evil. Those who judged the stories did not like shades of grey.
Jesus and his disciples sailed away from Gerasene on the Sea of Galilee. The disciples were scared. They watched their prophet talk to the demon of Gerasene known as Legion. Joshua had mercy on and touched a creature of Satan. They weren’t sure what was happening but the enraged man fell and became like a young boy and an entire herd of pigs broke out of their pens, ran down a cliff and crashed into the sea. Afterward he disappeared for a couple of hours. Then the people of the village became enraged and Joshua bolted back to the boat and set sail. The sun had set and everyone ate. Finally John asked, “Rabbi, what happened back there with that demon?”
Joshua began…
Legion began as a boy with a single soul. His name was Cirran and one morning he sat facing Sodom and Gomorrah while the rain of fire and brimstone came down from heaven. He was the only human watching with his eyes wide open. Less than a mile away, Lot and his daughters were walking away from a pillar of salt that was his wife and their mother. She had not heeded the words of the angels sent to warn Lot and destroy the two cities. “Do not look at the wrath of God,” the angel ordered.
They may as well asked for her to keep her mouth shut. Lot’s wife was a busybody who was always in everyone’s business. But that’s another story.
There was no one around to care why the boy could see everything. Thousands of lives were being erased below him and from this distance he could feel the heat searing over him as the energy had no other place to go after it hit but up the valley walls. None of these events mattered to the boy, only his mission. He was from a very devout family who feared god, paid tithes, made sacrifices, and performed works to God.
Cirran, without any influence from his family, offered himself up to God. He was only twelve and felt an undeniable lead to venture far away from home into a mountain range his father had deemed forbidden. It was here a man appeared in clothing he had never seen; a suit. It was made of the finest silks of China in an almost pearl white color. The tailor, a member of the Chin family, did not question the white devil upon his request if they wanted the gold that was now resting comfortably in their father’s pockets.
Lucifer greeted Cirran in an embrace. There was a tear in his eyes. He didn’t like that his boss, the Infinite God, the One Supreme, Providence, and Odin to a few made requests like this but he did not question Providence, well at least not more than once.
“Cirran do you accept whatever God is asking you to do?” Lucifer asked.
“I have given my word and my life to the Gods,” he replied.
“Just one God, all else is a name given by people but all stem from One Divine Infinite Spirit,” Lucifer said. “One begat two, two begat three, and three begat the 10,000 things.”
He made a scary face like a father would do and then smiled. Lucifer took that moment to make his head and hands shine as bright as the sun for effect.
Cirran stood back and kneeled on the ground with his face in the dirt.
“Get up boy and walk until you are met!” Lucifer commanded.
Cirran rose and saw no one. He walked until he was met by blue skinned red eyed men who spoke in sputtering knocks that sounded like someone playing a dull wooden xylophone. He walked with them into the mountain until he came to doors that shined like silver and opened with a swishing sound on their own without guards or doormen.
Inside the walls and tables held what looked like large tiles to Cirran but they glowed, flashed and displayed writing he could not understand. They led him to a room that glowed white and laid him on a table that shone like glass. He fell asleep and woke with clear instructions on where to go next. He walked into the next day never tiring or desiring food or water.
In his sleep, Cirran had been given a modification to be able to capture the souls of the damned and use their energy for what he was told would be good works.
The Djinn of the desert were known for giving and taking away powers and he was given what he considered a blessing. But the Djinn never did anything unless it benefited them. They wanted to see if the boy could absorb the souls so he could be used for their benefit. The Divine, knowing all things, knew how to play all things against themselves. Cirran went to the ridge and saw the sky rain fire down on Sodom and Gomorrah.
Cirran waited at the top of the mountain for the carnage below to finish. He could see lights that looked like stars on the valley floor. At first they were unorganized but soon they began to form into a spiral and then move up the mountain.
He did not hear Lucifer come up behind him. “You are seconds from your last chance boy. I can send you home and hide you until you are old,” he said.
“Why would you do that?” Cirran asked.
“Your family has never faltered in their giving. You have always done so much in His name keeping Him in your mind in all your works. He will forgive you,” Lucifer said.
Cirran didn’t need to think, his life was meant for this purpose and he stood to wait for his fate. He turned to Lucifer and said, “Thanks but I will follow God no matter where he takes me.”
“So be it,” Lucifer said.
He opened a key text and spoke the language of creation. It sounded like a lion singing a lullaby.
Cirran felt his belly ripped open as the swarm approached. He felt every tear but no blood flowed. There was also no guts, stomach or other organs but several swirling licks of flame that looked like they were dancing around a ball. When the first souls entered Cirran’s body, he began to convulse as each one looked for a way to take him over but they found nothing but a controller that cut off their movement and forced them to abide by his will. If each soul had a voice it would have screamed in agony as their momentary ability to transcend all life and struggle was gone within their new prison. One by one they filled the empty space until over ten thousand of them squeezed into every crevice of his body. The dominant ones tried with all their might to take control of Cirran, he fell and rolled around.
Lucifer came up to him and held him down with his knees. He could feel the power potential beneath him. Each soul had a subatomic value in the millions with the real energy of a planet repelling the pull of its sun. Cirran’s skin began to buckle and stretch as the container was pushed to its limits. “Give them an order Cirran, now!” Lucifer cried.
“Stop moving,” Cirran said.
The souls stopped moving. Their will was ripped from them and they could do nothing but obey. What had been their memories were filtering into Cirran’s brain. He was still on the ground with his eyes screwed shut and tears streaming across his face.
“Why did He do this to me? I have no defense against all these horrid things these people did,” Cirran said.
“You were never supposed to. You aren’t his little do-gooder. You’re His Legion. You will do His will as a destroyer until such time you do not,” Lucifer said. He held the boy tight. It was just a matter of seconds before the innocence was lost in the boy’s grip as Legion let go of Lucy’s embrace and walked as one.
Lucifer looked up into the hazy image of heaven with tears in his eyes.
The image dissolved in front of the disciples and they could see Joshua with tears as well. “Why would God use someone for such destruction?” he asked. He knew the question was on all their minds.
Each man and every woman nodded their heads. The image became just a few hours before…
Joshua walked up to Cirran who only appeared to be forty despite living over two thousand years as Legion.
Crying out with a loud voice, Legion said, “What have you to do with me, Joshua, Son of the Most High God? I adjure you by God, do not torment me.”
Joshue was saying to him, “Come out of the man, you unclean spirits! What is your name?”
He replied, “My name is Legion, for we are many” (Mark 5:6–10 (SIC))
Joshua put his hands on Legion and over ten thousand souls left him and fled into the flock of pigs that ran as hard as they could over the cliff smashing themselves on the rocks below or drowning in the water. Joshua put his hand out and Cirran could be seen as a frightened boy again. Lucy could see the tears forming in Cirran’s eyes. Joshua, the Christ, put his hand on Cirran’s head and removed all the memories of Legion’s deeds. Cirran opened his eyes and knelt before the Lord. He could see His light and true form.
Joshua turned to leave but Cirran got to his feet and ran around the front of Him and knelt down. “Please, where can I find my father and my family? Have I been gone long?” he asked.
“You have been gone over two thousand years, child. There’s not even a stone of your former house that is standing,” He said.
“What will I do? I trusted one of your brother’s before. Give me my Divine plan,” Cirran said.
“Are you sure you don’t want to just think for yourself and do whatever you want to do?” He asked.
“What I would like to do is run after those pigs into the sea myself so I think I should listen to you,” Cirran replied.
Joshua looked within the boy and remembered what had been taken. He touched the boy again and he was whole. “Are you ready now?”
Cirran nodded and said, “I am hungry.”
“Very well. In your cave just around the stone wall is your gold and silver. There is a lot of it so here is a helper,” Joshua said and thought. A Djinn appeared. He saw the Lord and kneeled and then saw the boy. His eyes widened. Once they had helped create him they never saw the boy again. He began to shiver.
“Daemon please stand. You will help Cirran and he will give you a talent of gold for yourself and another for the pig herder.”
The Djinn’s eyes brightened, he brought out his cart and loaded several hundred pounds of gold and lesser amounts of silver.
“Cirran, you have never been here before so no one will know. There is a woman of this village who has a daughter who she wants to marry off to a good boy who is not a religious zealot like the Pharisee or Sadducee,” Joshua said.
“Is she good looking?” Cirran asked.
The Lord God rolled his eyes and replied, “Oh yes, her skin has never seen the sun, she has mountains on her chest and good padding on her hind. Don’t worry.” He touched between Cirran’s eyes, and said, “you will know every possible way to please her and the bankers in Galilee have more gold on account since they began, under your full name.”
Joshua handed Cirran a ring. It had been his father’s signet, a signature that ensured Cirran’s reception of his fortune. “Come along, she is this way. Her mother has complete faith I am bringing her daughter’s best choice,” he said.
Joshua looked past the bow to what lay ahead. The men all whispered their thoughts to one another for a while until Joshua said, “All things work for or in service to God.”
Everyone aboard agreed and praised God. John thought for a moment and asked, “Then why were the people so angry if you gave them money for their pigs?”
“The gold of course. When I took Cirran to the village with all the gold, no one saw us except all of you. When I came back, they had entered the cave and saw nothing they became enraged and chased me down the hill.” the Lord said and laughed.
“What makes you laugh?” Judas asked, “A demon?”
“A house cannot stand against itself,” he said, “No, all those people had made deals with the Djinn to get rid of the demon and now cannot pay.”
